Dr. Daniel Chun is currently a teaching faculty member at the HKUST Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies – responsible for teaching Deep Tech Start-up Business Plan, AI, Smart City, Design Thinking. He actively volunteers at various associations such as the Smart City Consortium as Vice-President; at Smart City Academy as Executive Director; at The Entrepreneurs’ Network as President and also as a member of the HKTDC Electronics and Electrical Appliance. Previously, Daniel had served as a lecturer for “Technology for Adult and Vocational Education” at the HKUSPACE for over 10 years, during which he actively engaged in developing new pedagogical approaches, including the application of Technology-enhanced Learning, Design Thinking and Artificial Intelligence.
Furthermore, Daniel is a Chartered Engineer, a patent owner and inventor and was formerly the CEO at an IoT Home Automation company called Remotec (which under his tenure has turned around to be profitable). He is currently the investor of a few start-ups including – a Cyberport alumni (Art Group Ltd) which is an art and charity auction company (OpenHeart) serving the charities since 2012; as a vertical integration, during the Covid-19 period, he dived into a blockchain-based art tech marketplace called (Artracx); recently he invested into a stamp and coins auction marketplace called Philate.ly , an AI-curator tool called Articulator.ai and a new HKSTP incubatee called (Real Matter) dealing with digital assets, DID, blockchain-based chipset security.
He has published widely in the fields of art tech, entrepreneurship, mobile learning and smart city development. Daniel holds a PhD (Universiti Sains Malaysia) in Leadership, a MBA (Distinction) in Innovation from Sunderland University, a Master in Information Technology from Charles Sturt University, a Master in Research from Lancaster University (Technology-Enhanced Learning) and B.Sc (Computer Science) from Deakin University.
Dr. Chun has been an Emcee and moderator for various panels and industry forum including Digital Economy Summit and various tech events.
